Thomas Phelan, St. Thomas Aquinas, Camas. In a special appointment Rev. Jan Bogusz was appointed to the office of auditor of the Matri- monial Court in the Chancery Office. Churches, Priory, High School Dedieated The Archbishop officiated at the-dedication of several new churches as well as a new priory and girls' high school and a new convent during the past year. St. Alphonsus Church in Se- attle's Ballard district, built at a cost of $324,000 was dedicated January 14. The Rev. A. J. Shaughnessy is pastor of the church which seats 800 persons. In May the dedication of the new church of St. Mary Mission in Castle Rock marked the 60th anniversary of the mission par- ish on June 3. The building is contemporary in design with two connecting w i n g s. The Rev. Michael J. Lukas is administra- tor of the mission. It is a part of Queen of An- gels Parish in Port Angeles where Rev. Alcuin Lawrence, O.S.B., is pastor. The one-story wooden church was fsnanced and built by pa- rishioners with the help of neighbors on the Olympic Pe- := + ninsula. St. Placid Priory of the Sis- ters of St. Benedict of St. Jo- seph, Minn., and St. Placid High School for girls in Olympia, was dedicated April 29 in impressive ceremonies. The $700,000 structure in- cludes a two-story convent with a school wing which includes a library and 11 teaching stations. Future plans call for the expan- sion of the convent and school to include a college building. Present classroom facilities at St. Placid, the o n I y Catholic hgh school for girls in Thurs- ton County, can accommodate 300 students. The T-shaped frame and brick veneer convent pro- vides accommodations for the 16 Dominican Sisters and a house- keeper. Finished this September was Bellarmine Hall at Seattle Uni- versity, a new six-story men's residence hall. Construction Programs Planned Several m a j o r construction programs now planned: An addition to and modifica- tion of the Chancery Building, headquarters of the Archdiocese. New high schools in Bellevue, South Seattle, Tacoma, N o r t h " King County and Vancouver. A new residence for Brothers at O'Dea High School and a new convent for Sisters at St. James Cathedral School. A new church and rectory in St. Anne Parish and a new con- vent at St. George Parish, both Seattle. Church, rectory, catechetical center and auditorium in Holy Family Parish, Auburn. Gymnasium and parish hall at St. John Parish, Seattle. New rectories at Queen of Angels Parish, P o r t Angeles, and Star of the Sea Parish, Port Townsend. New school for St. Philomena Parish, Des Moines. New St. John Hospital in Port Townsend. Under construction now or soon to be constructed are: St. John Marie Vianney parish cen- ter on Vashon Island. A new parish plant and par- ish hall in Our Lady of Guada- lupe Parish, Seattle. Construction of the school, scheduled to open in September, 1962, was delayed,, due to the ironworkers and gen- eral contractors labor difficulties during the summer. Complete parish plant at St. Michael Parish, Olympia, and St. Thomas, Riverton.
