6-C---afhol;o Northwest Progress December 14, 1962 Opening The 1962 Liturgical Week, Mass Is First Said In Seattle With Celebrant Facing The Congregation (Continued From Page 5) The Church in Seattle made the front pages in August with the hosting of the 23rd Annual North A m e r i c a n Liturgical Week, August 20-23, at the Se- attle World's Fair Arena, Play- house and Opera House. Over 4,000 bishops, priests, Sisters, seminarians and laymen converged on Seattle for the three-day meet which studied in detail the life and worship of the Church. Experts in liturgy from the Midwest and East Coast as well as the Pacific Coast gave papers at the meeting. Noted speakers included Rev. Godfrey Diek- mann, O.S.B. from St. John Abbey, Collegeville, Minn.; Rev. Joseph Nolan, Liturgical Confer- ence D i r e c t o r from Galena, Kans.; and Rev. Study groups in art, music, lay organizations, parish partici- pation and for those concerned with the work of priests, retreat m a s t e r s, seminary professors, teachers, brothers, and chaplains were included in the busy days. The success of the week was attested to by Rev. Frederick Mc- Manus, president of the Liturgi- cal Conference in a letter to The Progress in which he said: "We are deeply grateful for the dedi- cated efforts of all who labored to achieve the success of the 1962 Liturgical Week." Those who labored so dili- gently for almost a year preced- ing the Conference included Rev. James Deady, Rev. Edward Boyle, Rev. William Gallagher, Rev. Joseph Buck, Rev. James Gandrau, Rev. James King, S.J. and Rev.
