Anniversary Year For Churches 1962 was an anniversary year for many Catholic institu- tions in Western Washington. The first came early in May when tiny St. Barbara Mission in Black Diamond marked the 50th year of establishment. A mission of St. Aloysius, Buck- ley, the historic church was built by the Italian and Austrian set- tlers who came to the mining area in the late 19th century bringing with them their strong faith and the need for a church to serve their needs. The pres- ent pastor of St. Barbara's is Rev. Charles Crosse. Also in May the Sisters of Providence marked the 75th an- niversary of St. Peter Hospital, Olympia. It was in April, 1887 that construction began under the direction of Rev. Charles Claessens, pastor of St. Michael Church. On that same May weekend, alumni, teachers and friends of St. James Cathedral School gath- ered for the 50th anniversary of their school. Among the noted alumni attending were the Most Reverend Joseph P. Dougherty, Bishop of Yakima, Rev. Fran* cis Logan, S.J., of Seattle Uni- versity, his brothers, Rev.
