Cen,y,--- Arehbishep d Seattle ' Dear Catholic Men: If you are earnest in the great affair of your salva- tion, and in the desire of safeguarding the honor of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, and promoting the glory of His Holy Name, please become a member of THE HOLY NAME SOCIETY, so much recommended by his Excellency, Archbishop Connolly, and so richly indul- genced by the Supreme Pontiffs. During the Holy Name Rally at St. Anthony's Par- ish in Renton on the Feast of Christ the King, in October, 1954, Archbishop Connolly said: "You must become apostles to bring Christ's teaching and the influence of Christian lives into shops and offices, into fields and factories and every- where that Christ may enter." Join the Holy Name Society! It is the wish of our beloved Archbishop. Join the Holy Name Society! You will see for your- self, as Archbishop Connolly has pointed out, that a group of men doing the things required of good and loyal Catholics will be a "nucleus in every parish to set the style of Christian living and show what CATHOLIC men are." Join the Holy Name Society! You will thus be doing the will of our Holy Father, you will be increas- ing the efficiency of your pastor, and you will be setting the style of Christian living. Join the HolyName Society! You wiJl learn for yourself that, it requires of you only what every good and loyal Catholic man is expected to be. But doing these Catholic things boulder to shoulder with your fellow-Cathoffcs gives you and them a greater sense of solidarity, a greater feeling of unity in the Cause of Christ; it gives you and them more regularity in the performance of your spiritual duties, more courage in your determination to speak your religious convictions to your friends and acquaintances not of the Faith; it sets a fine example, and is a source of inspiration to the rest of the parish The following are the important things to which you oblige yourself: 1. Respect for the Holy Name of God. 2. Due observance of Sunday. 3. To receive Holy Communion with the Society on the second Sunday of the month. 4. To abstain from cursing, swearing, profane and un- becoming speech. 5. Privately and publicly to defend and promote the veneration and the honor of the Holy Name of God. 6. To lead a life in harmony with the promises con- tained in the Holy Pledge .... N.B. THE HOLY NAME PLEDGE IS ONE OF THE BEST PRAYERS EVER COMPOSED FOR AMERICAN MEN! Catholic Men! Are these thoroughly Christian obli- gations too much to ask you to do shoulder-to-shoulder with your fellow-Catholics? I am sure that you do not think that they axe. So, if you are not a member already, please join the Holy Name Society today! Be one more in the ranks of the seven million Holy Name men who want to save our world by giving it Cbrist and the things of Christ!
