Scanlcm of Honolulu delivers sermon at the pontifical Mass (See text Page Seven) Twenty-two archbishops and bishops, three abbots, a dozen or more monsignori and scores of visiting priests from the Union of South Africa, Pennsylvania. New Mexico, Utah, Montana, Idaho, Alaska, Oregon, Hawaii, Colorado and California attend the solemn pontifical Mass of Thanksgiving and offer Archbishop Connolly congratulations afterwards on the front steps of St. James Cathedral. The Archbishop gives Holy Communion to his younger brother, John Connolly of San Mateo, Calif. Assisting the Archbishop is Rt. Rev. Msgr. John Doogan, deacon of the Mass. The Archbishop is shown on his archiepiscopal throne (photo to the left) with Rev. Michael OCallaghan of Seattle, first deacon of honor, to the Archbishop's right and Rev. Alcuin Lawrence, O.S.B., of Port Angeles, subdeacon, to the Archbishop's left. This group of ladies (photo to the right) were among more than 1,500 persons who participated actively in the responses, chants and hymns of the pontifical Mass.
