k.. Caflu)i Northwest Progress .. Friday, May 28, |965 EATTLE UNIVERSITY will graduate more an 700 stu- derRs at commencement exercises in the Seattle Center Opera House Saturday, ay 29. It will be the largest graduating class in the University's history--up approxi- mately 50 from last year's record high. This year's commencement ac- tivities break with two long-stand- ing year-end customs. They will be compressed into a two-day period. In the past, they lasted the better Dart of the final week. The Opera House ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. Dr. Oharles Odegaard, president of the Univerty of Washington, will deliver the commencement address and receive an honorory doctor of laws degree. lWather J(n A. Fitterer SJ, ,president vf Seattle University ,r r since April 8, wll preside over his first commencement. The Most Reverend Thomas A. Connolly. Arehbishop of Seattle, will present the degrees to the graduating seniors and master's candidates. The Bishop Sh,aughnessy Medal will be presented to the graduat- ing senior with the outstanding record of achievement in philoso- phy and theology and the Presi, 'dent's Cup goes to the senior who *has maintained the highest schol- arship throughout four years of college. A number of graduates will also receive commissions in the United States Army and Army Reserve. The baccalaureate Mass was celebrated in St. James Cathedral Friday, May 28. The Most Rev- erend George Flahiff. Archbishop ef Winnepeg, was speaker. Arch,bishop Flahiff was secre- tary of the Pontifical Institute of Medieval Studies at the University of Toronto in ,1950. He was edu- cated at the University of Toronto and the University of Paris. He will also receive an honorary de- gree at commencement.
